The average soccer player in other countries tends to have better foot skills than the average American soccer player simply because they have their feet on the ball more often. It is what they do for fun. The best soccer players are those that come from the sand lots where kids play pick up games with their friends. The same is true with many sports. If your only contact time with the sport is organized, it's not much.... you don't touch the ball much because their are 21 other players on the field,
and you get subbed out so everyone has a chance to play. When you have 5 friends out on the playground with you, you touch the ball a great deal of the time and there are no subs, only needed breaks.
So, get outside with your friends and play. If there is only two of you, play 1v1 and shoot against a fence or through a couple of sticks stuck in the ground. If it is only you, practice juggling, practice your moves against a garbage can, shoot the ball against a wall and trap it on the rebound, or strike the ball against a set of stairs and trap its return. It sure beats sitting in front of the Tele.
